Feeling rested and relaxed, we boarded
our junk boat to visit a local wet market at My Long to view all
their fruits, veges and meats/fish. Katie bought a Vietnamese
conical hat as great for all around sun protection. We bought our
favourite fruits of mangosteen and mango to eat later on our junk
boat. We biked through the local My Long village to a Cao Daism
temple, a fusion of East and West religion including Buddism,
Christianity and Islam. We then continued biking through the narrow
backroads with lush vegetation, then via our junk boat and walking to
our local rice paper maker where we were shown how it was made before
being handed the reins and each making rice paper ourselves and
talking with the local family sharing green tea and crispy rice
noodle with them.
Back to our Mango Homestay for a swim
before our five course Vietnamese feast of pasta soup, deep fried
cauliflower, papaya salad with pork and shrimp, elephant ear fish
with locally made rice paper, Vietnamese pancakes followed by
flammable pineapple. Wow, now we are really full!!!
Back onto the boat to connect with Son
(our HCMC driver) to take us back to the big smoke. We can totally
recommend a visit to Mango Homestay and a tour of the area (c/o Mango
Tours) with the amazing hosts Lun (the guide) and Bun (the chef).
