We’re in Hallstatt, a UNESCO village (from 1997) in Austria
in the Alpine region of the Salzkammergut.
The steep ranges rise to 3,000m, the Hallstatter See (Lake) is quite
refreshing after the hot 37C days we’ve had.
Last night there was a spectacular storm with non-stop lightning every
2-3 mins lighting up all the mountain ranges, at least the air has been cooled
down now.
The kids have wrote about the two major attractions – the
Dachstein Ice Caves and the Salzbergwerk (Salt mines). So I am including photos taken from the
Dachstein Mountains, the village of Hallstatt and other views of Lake Hallstatt. I’ve also attached a photo of the lightning
over the mountain ranges at 2am lighting up the sky and revealing the hidden
mountain ranges from the dark.
