The bustling night markets are full of vibrant colour, energy, fragrant smells, Asian sounds and interesting trinkets. There are t-shirts galore, purses, bags, key rings, elephant pants (both Katie & I have purchased these), arts and crafts.
We have fallen in love with fruit shakes - watermelon, pineapple and mango are our favourite, they range in price from 25bt ($1) at the night markets to 80bt($3.20) in a fancy restaurant and all taste as good as each other - just fruit & ice whizzed in a blender.
The street markets serve delicious food including pad thai, chicken skewers, chiang mai sausage (a pork sausage with basil & chilli minced into it), stir fries, curries, fried rice, and sticky rice with mango. These range in price from 20bt (under $1) to 70bt ($2.80). We find a table near a fan or under some shade cloth & listen to the local music whilst watching the hustle and bustle. It's still about 30-35 degrees at 7.30pm! Our favourite fruit is mangosteen - yum, and a refreshing Chang beer always goes down well in this heat with dinner.
Katie enjoyed getting her nails painted whilst Connor is looking at all the little bits & bobs.
