Today we went to a UXO centre were they retrieve unexploded bombs from the battle of what Laos people call the 2nd World Indochina War which was USA vs Vietnam (aka Vietnam War in NZ ).
Laos people were either neutral or those in Northern Laos supported the North Vietnamese Army, while Laos people in the South supported the USA. The USA bomber planes bombed down 270 million cluster bombies on Laos during 1964 and 1973 and up to 30% of these did not explode until this day, approximately one death or injury happens each day by these unexploded bombs. This usually happens when little kids see a shiny ball (bombie) on the ground and they pick it up and throw it against the ground and KABOOOSH there goes another innocent life. One cluster bomb can hold up to 3 to 600 cluster bombies inside it and also one cluster bomb can cover an area of 3 whole SOCCER FIELDS.
Seeing this today made me feel sad because heaps of deaths happened.
Here are some photos.
